HOT RAINBOW is an educational service that partners with supermarkets in New York City. Its aim is to reduce waste caused by produce that is superficially tarnished yet still edible. The problem for many shoppers is surplus problematic appearances. Such misperception leads to otherwise good food being discarded. The strategy is to connect with schools to host cooking classes and educate children about food waste and how to reduce waste start at home. The service includes a guidebook which contains cooking recipes that make use of several of the most wasted vegetables in the United States.
